The 'C' Team just scraped by against Newcastle 'D' in the Division 4 Clash Of The Titans on Wednesday evening. We were without our strongest player as Jasper Carrott was away on business. Well that's what he says anyway but he was probably drowning his sorrows after the mighty Hammers put the Blue Noses in their place. A very close fought match finally ended 2.5 - 1.5 in our favour - but not after some nervous moments. First up to finish was Ernie Wilkinson on Board 4, followed by another draw by myself on Board 3. Emperor Ming, playing on Board 2, lost a Queen for a Rook and a Knight - he'll tell you he planned it but I know differently !! - and I wrongly assumed he was heading for defeat. 5 minutes later he was walking around with a smirk on his face and his ridiculous woolly hat on his head and telling me that he'd actually won. That put us 2-1 in front and only Richard to finish. It looked like his unbeaten league record was about to go as he was 2 pawns down against Paul Clapham going into the endgame. Unfortunately Paul was in time trouble and eventually agreed to a draw and giving Fenton the match.
We are now 6 points clear at the top of Division 4 and edging closer to the Championship with each match. Next up is Cheddleton 'E' next Friday.
