With the Division 4 title already sewn up Fenton 'C' made the short trip to Meir on Monday evening. Illness had already robbed us of Richard Cantliff and less than an hour before the match was due to start we lost Jasper Carrott who was seconded to play for the 'A' Team. So for the 2nd week running we were unable to field our strongest team. The Magician stepped up to the plate again though and together with Derek Shitehurst we managed to draw both games on Board 3 and 4. Wins on Boards 1 and 2 by Emperor Ming and myself meant that we ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. So with two matches left to play - both against Cheddleton 'E' - we are still unbeaten and way out of sight of every other team.
All eyes are now on Mark Whitby and the 'D' Team, who are 2 points clear at the top of Division 5 with 3 matches to play. They also have a game in hand of all of their main challengers. Too early to be getting the champagne out yet but if we can field our best team for the final few matches we have a great chance of making it a Division 4 and 5 double.
Congratulations to Emperor Ming on winning the U-130 Section at the Newcastle Mini Congress at the weekend. His £72 prize was then pissed up the wall before it had time to burn a hole in his pocket.
